I am Maria Belokonskaya, a photographer and filmmaker based in Brussels with Russian roots.

My approach is primarily documentary, yet I place significant emphasis on staging and fiction. Social and identity themes weave a rich backdrop in all my projects. I strive to highlight individuals—both singular and plural—especially through portraits. Even when they are not directly depicted, I am constantly in search of their essence. Collaborating with diverse individuals enriches my work, and I actively pursue creative connections across fields like anthropology and architecture to deepen my perspective on the world.
