These pictures were taken as a part of an urban anthropology study carried out by Ana-Maria Voicu in 2020.

Abstract of the study :

The northern district of Brussels is one of its biggest business sectors, after the European district located in Schuman. This active urban area is not only formed by numerous high-rise buildings, where multinational companies have their headquarters, alongside with new residential buildings, but it also includes a diversity of actors: residents, living in social housing, and transmigrants and refugees, living in Maximilian Park. The aim of this research is to capture the diversity and various dimensions that compose the northern district as well as the different tensions and debates that arise from it. Taking as focal point the area around Maximilian Park, the research will undergo a vertical analysis by investigating the different historical layers that led to the formation of the area today. By doing so, we will be able to better understand the new developments that take place in the area, as well as the ongoing debates and the formation of different social organizations, which are currently involved in the development of this urban zone.
